A backstage update has emerged after FTR made their return to AEW during last night’s Revolution pay-per-view event.
Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood appeared in AEW for the first time in 2023 after Austin and Colten Gunn had retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship in a four-way.
The Gunns beat the Acclaimed, Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett, and Danhausen & Orange Cassidy.
Back when FTR were written off AEW TV in December, it was via a loss to the Gunns, so the comeback ties into that.
According to Fightful Select, FTR’s return was kept “very quiet” backstage, so it sounds like it was as much of a surprise to those in the company as it was to fans at home.
Recent social media activity and comments from Harwood had made it seem like there were legitimate issues between FTR and AEW, and that their contracts were expiring in April.
However, it seems like that’s not the case, at least for now, as FTR are back and it looks like there’ll be at least another match between them and the Gunns for the championship.
WRKD Wrestling had reported a number of days ago that the plan was still for FTR to be the ones who beat the Gunns for the title.
PWInsider also reported that it’s believed both members of FTR are locked into “long-term contracts” and the teases of going elsewhere were just a storyline.
PWInsider clarified they didn’t report FTR had signed “new” deals, so it seems the April thing was just for the purpose of the storyline.
