An update has emerged on the backstage role of a former WWE star at AEW Collision on June 17 2023 in Chicago.
As previously reported, Chris Hero was in Chicago and was scheduled to work with AEW on a “trial basis”.
Further details of the arrangement was revealed by PW Insider, stating:
“Chris Hero was backstage producing matches for Ring of Honor and was on headset for several matches, including The Chicago Street Fight that closed the taping.
“He will be in for a few weeks after being suggested as a potential addition to the team by some of the other Producers, but is not in officially yet.
“Fightful.com actually reported before the taping that he was working behind the scenes at the taping.”
TV tapings for ROH took place before the debut episode of AEW Collision, with details for what took place being found here.
It’s also reported by PW Insider that Pat Buck and Sonjay Dutt were in attendance at the taping as coaches/producers.
Jeff Jarrett was backstage before the show and was handling behind-the-scenes duties.
Chris Hero has a storied career in independent wrestling that saw him join WWE in 2011 making his NXT debut as Kassius Ohno in 2013 only to be released on “good terms” in November of that year.
He would return to WWE, once again in NXT, in 2016 and remaining with the company until his release in April 2020.
