Three months removed from his WrestleMania 39 main event loss to Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes has revealed what Triple H told him after he came back through the curtain.
Many fans criticised WWE for having Cody Rhodes lose the WWE Universal Championship main event, with many believing that this was the perfect time and place for Roman Reigns’ title run to end.
Speaking to BT Sport’s Ariel Helwani, Cody was asked about the shocking defeat and how he felt immediately afterwards, to which he replied:
“I had a really good conversation that night with Triple H where he was really just trying to press upon me how important it was that I just main evented WrestleMania.
“Even when someone who, is one of your favorites, and someone who (I’ve) tried to get their attention and had a unique relationship with.
“Even when you’re hearing it from them, even from someone who would know. He would know. I still, in my gut, had to say, ‘This sucks. This sucks.
“This walk is going to suck. My mom is waiting by the bus. Little Brodie is crying. This sucks.’
Since suffering the disappointment Cody has moved on to programs with both Brock Lesnar and Dominik Mysterio, the latter of whom he defeated at Money in the Bank 2023.
Rhodes previously called out Lesnar for a third match, however the challenge has thus far gone unanswered, despite reports suggesting the Lesnar was set for a surprise appearance at the 02 Arena in London.
While a deciding match at SummerSlam appears likely, WWE’s grand plan may still end up with The American Nightmare once again standing across from the Tribal Chief.
There has been a brand new update on the potential Rhodes vs Reigns rematch, follow this link here for details.
