Roman Reigns Plans For WWE WrestleMania 40 Revealed WWE

An update has emerged on plans for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in 2024, following his major defeat at WWE Money in the Bank 2023.

The current WWE Universal Champion was notably defeated on the July 1 show, with Jey Uso pinning the Tribal Chief in the Usos vs Reigns & Solo Sikoa Bloodline Civil War match.

This marked Reigns’ first pinfall loss since Baron Corbin kept his shoulders down for the three-count at the December 2019 TLC premium live event.

With Reigns suffering such a high-profile loss, many are wondering what’s next for the Tribal Chief, and his Universal Championship reign.

Some fans have even began to wonder about how Reigns will be factored into WrestleMania 40, with the Bloodline leader notably walking in to the three most recent WrestleMania events with the Universal Championship, during this one reign.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the current plan is to have Reigns face off against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

Addressing Cody Rhodes’ comments during the post-Money in the Bank press conference, that winning the World Heavyweight Title wouldn’t finish his family’s story, Meltzer noted:

“His storyline is that the belt that his father didn’t win – which is apparently Roman’s belt – that’s the one that’s the story.

“So basically, he almost has said it’s next year’s WrestleMania, which is the plan right now.”

It had previously been reported that there had been discussions about having Cody Rhodes vs GUNTHER be the Raw main event for WrestleMania 40.

Reports prior to that indicated that a potential Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns rematch was ‘very much on the table‘ as far as talks went for next year’s WrestleMania 40 headliner.

Reigns most recently defended his WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, with Solo Sikoa interfering to cost Rhodes the match, which received heavy criticism from fans.

At Money in the Bank 2023, Cody Rhodes defeated Dominik Mysterio in singles action.
