WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER has now hit a new title milestone, ahead of potentially breaking the Honky Tonk Man’s record.
Since defeating Ricochet for the gold on the June 10 edition of SmackDown, GUNTHER has dominantly reigned over the WWE midcard scene.
The Ring General has established himself as perhaps the most dominant star on the WWE roster, besides WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
July 15 officially marks 400 days since GUNTHER first won the Intercontinental Championship.
With the Honky Tonk Man currently holding the record for the longest IC Title reign at 454 days, GUNTHER is less than two months away from breaking this record.
It has been heavily speculated that the leader of Imperium will still be champion on September 6, with WWE often touting his accomplishments on TV.
GUNTHER is often referred to as the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st century.
Several other stars have held the Intercontinental Title for longer than 400 days, with Randy Savage having a 414 day stint with the gold, and Pedro Morales holding the title for 424 days.
GUNTHER last defended the gold against Matt Riddle at the July 1 Money in the Bank premium live event.
Following the bout, Drew McIntyre made a surprise return, indicating that he will be the next major challenger for the gold.
