A WWE Hall of Famer has been removed from SummerSlam weekend convention following controversy.
During WrestleMania 39 weekend in Los Angeles, WrestleCon held their latest convention where WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner shouted homophobic remarks to IMPACT Wrestling star Gisele Shaw.
This led to Steiner being pulled from the rest of the convention’s activities that weekend, but WrestleCon recently announced that the former WCW star was set to appear at their next convention in Detroit during SummerSlam weekend.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 18 (via PWInsider), WrestleCon has now announced that Rick Steiner has been removed from the convention on August 5 and 6.
After a discussion with Brian Bell from SB Nation’s Outsports and host of LGBT In The Ring podcast on Monday morning, WrestleCon management agreed with their opinion that a public acknowledgement and apology from Steiner was necessary to allow him to attend Detroit.
The statement reads that they gave Steiner 24 hours to make such a statement and since there is no indication that is coming, WrestleCon has been forced to revoke their permission for him to attend.
Additionally, management indicated that they have now created a first draft of the Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment policy that will be posted on our website for everybody to see later on July 18.
Reports had previously indicated that Rick Steiner had decided to take some time away following his controversy, which you can read here.
