Recently in WWE, a match featuring Rey Mysterio had to be stopped mid-way through due to injury and now more details have been revealed.
In an interview with WrestlingNews.co, the other man in the match, Santos Escobar expanded upon the events that occurred.
Sharing that Mysterio did in fact sustain a ‘mild concussion’ during the match, Escobar said:
“The show that you got is the show that it was gonna be. I believe that it is important to present a good show and I believe that was the case that night. Rey and I went hard at it. That’s what we agreed upon.
“We have a very long relationship. You know, we have a bond. And when you have that, you go hard. That’s what happens when you go hard. I’m just glad that he had a small mild concussion. But he came back hard. And then well, you know what happened a couple of weeks after the fact.”
On the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, Rey Mysterio suffered an injury that stopped his match with Santos Escobar as the pair were doing battle over a shot at the United States Championship.
While the plan was reportedly for Escobar to always win that match, which he did by stoppage rather than the planned pinfall win, Escobar would not end up getting the shot at the Austin Theory’s United States Championship in the end.
With Santos Escobar attacked before the match by Theory, Rey Mysterio would instead sub in for Escobar and go on to win the bout and the title on the August 11 episode of WWE SmackDown.
