Former WWE star Maven has recalled scrapped WWE plans for him to win the Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin.
The winner of the first season of Tough Enough only won one title during his stint with WWE, with Maven holding the Hardcore Championship on three occasions.
In a new YouTube video, Maven revealed that he nearly became an Intercontinental Champion at New Year’s Revolution 2005.
Maven explained that the original plan was for him to defeat Shelton Benjamin, but WWE chose to change direction.
Discussing the nixed plans, Maven said:
“When I was wrestling Shelton Benjamin for the Intercontinental Championship, the original plan was to maybe give me the belt, but, being that I had just turned to a bad guy and I was still extremely inexperienced, they knew I wasn’t ready.
“I had one or two options there. I coulda hung my head and showed them that I would never be ready, but what I did was agree with them and say, let me get more experience, so that when you are ready, I am ready.”

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is currently around the waist of GUNTHER, who is closing in on the Honky Tonk Man’s record.
To become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, GUNTHER needs to hold the gold until at least September 7 to break the 455 day record.
