The Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio has shared his thoughts on his father Rey Mysterio capturing the WWE United States Championship.
The WWE Hall of Famer recently put an end to the 258 day title reign of Austin Theory, dethroning the 26-year-old on the August 11 edition of SmackDown.
Despite the title change being celebrated by the majority of WWE fans, Rey’s own son ‘Dirty’ Dom is unsurprisingly far from impressed with his father’s latest accolade.
Speaking on WWE The Bump, Dom suggested that Rey’s win was little more than another attempt to upstage his own reign as NXT North American Champion, with the third generation star pointing out that his title is more important, geographically at least.
Dom first explained whether he was proud of his dad’s accomplishment, answering:
“Not at all. I think it’s kind of sad that he feels the need to win a title to try and overshadow what I’m doing.
“But it doesn’t matter because he’s the United States Champion. I’m the champion of all of North America, which includes the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“I’m pretty sure I’m the only North American champion that’s ever actually taken this title to Canada, Mexico and the US.
“But I think it’s kind of sad that my dad feels the need to try and overshadow me with his singles title but whatever, he’s a deadbeat.”
Rey will soon have to prove his reign has longevity as he attempts to fight off Theory as the two face off in a rematch at WWE Payback on Saturday, September 2.
As for Dom, he will soon have a title defence of his own to concern himself with as he takes on either Dragon Lee or Mustafa Ali at NXT No Mercy on September 30.
Who he faces at this event lies in Dom’s hands, as he will take up the role of special guest referee in the #1 contenders match between Ali and Lee on next week’s NXT (August 5).
