The Ring General is officially set to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history following tonight’s (September 4) episode of WWE Raw.
GUNTHER defended his Intercontinental Championship in the main event against Chad Gable, just days before he breaks the Honky Tonk Man’s record for the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in history.
The match came after Gable handed GUNTHER his first defeat on the WWE main roster, beating GUNTHER by count out in the pair’s first Intercontinental Championship clash.
In the end, despite a valiant effort from Gable, GUNTHER was able to defeat Gable, officially passing the Honky Tonk Man’s record.
GUNTHER defeated Ricochet to capture the Intercontinental Championship on the June 10, 2022 episode of SmackDown.
He will officially pass the record on September 7 this Thursday.
World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins also reached an impressive milestone recently, surpassing 100 days as the World Heavyweight Champion.
