A top star says “I don’t give a damn about IMPACT, I hated TNA.”
In 2010 and 2011, Kazuchika Okada traveled to America for his excursion to work for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling.
Despite high hopes, the stint did not go well for Okada with only 12 total matches for the promotion during his two-year run. The use of “The Rainmaker” led to the relationship between NJPW and IMPACT eventually souring for years.
During a backstage interview on the Road To Destruction tour, Kazuchika Okada reminded everyone that he remembers his time in IMPACT. He said:
“IMPACT Wrestling? Give me a break. There’s not a promotion I hate more in this world! But I was a pretty big Motor City fan back in the day.”
“A little while back, we faced them in a tag three-way. I know exactly how good they are, but this is a three-on-three NEVER six-man match, and we’re walking in champions.”
“Being the face of NJPW, I can say that I hate…Actually, I don’t give a damn about IMPACT. Who I really hated was TNA.”
NJPW recently announced IMPACT’s Josh Alexander, X-Division Champion Chris Sabin and IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley will challenge Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomohiro Ishii for the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Titles at NJPW Destruction In Ryogoku on October 8.
Okada and Tanahashi previously faced the Motor City Machine Guns in a three-way tag team bout with Aussie Open for the NJPW STRONG Tag Team Championships at NJPW Capital Collision earlier this year.
Ahead of the title defense, Okada and Ishii will team to face TMDK’s Bad Dude Tito and NJPW World TV Champion Zack Sabre Jr. on September 24 at NJPW Destruction In Kobe.
