The NXT tag team division was spotlighted at this past weekend’s NXT No Mercy premium live event, when Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo defended their titles in a four-way match.
D’Angelo and Stacks defeated the Creed Brothers, Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo and Out The Mud to retain the belts.
With most of the division’s top teams defeated, the question arises as to who is next to challenge Tony and Stacks for the titles.
It was recently reported that former NXT Tag Team Champions Akam and Rezar, the Authors of Pain, had been re-signed by WWE, with them reportedly set to return to the NXT brand upon their return.
Following their victory, Stacks took to Twitter to ask who is next to challenge he and The Don for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
When one fan mentioned the AOP, Stacks responded, seemingly calling out the former WWE stars.
He wrote:
Don’t know the deal with these guys. Don’t get the hype either.
But, we’re open for business if they want some action.
AOP were released from WWE back in 2020, with them reportedly being ‘secretly re-signed’ by the company last December.
