UPDATE: The story of WWE SmackDown was actually a “bidding war” over Randy Orton and he did make a decision on which brand to sign with – click here for the latest.
The WWE brand status of Randy Orton has been confirmed following his return at Survivor Series last weekend.
Orton was part of the WarGames main event, which his team won, and then he appeared on Raw two nights later and picked up a win over Dominik Mysterio.
On tonight’s December 1 episode of SmackDown, Randy Orton is set to make an appearance.
That brings up the obvious question of which brand he’s on since he’s appearing on both shows this week.
Well, in introducing tonight’s show, Corey Graves on commentary confirmed for the first time that Orton is a “free agent”.
This means in theory he can appear on any WWE brand – Raw, SmackDown and even NXT.
Other free agents currently include Brock Lesnar, Omos and MVP, Logan Paul, Von Wagner, and Xyon Quinn.
Also listed in internally in WWE as a free agent, although they haven’t actually said this publicly, is CM Punk, who also returned at Survivor Series.
Of course WWE sticks to its brand assignments very loosely anyway, but for what it’s worth, Orton has been announced as a free agent.
Orton has yet to appear on SmackDown, but we’ll keep you updated with any news that comes out of his appearance later on.
