Tony Khan has provided an update on Ric Flair’s AEW deal after the two-time WWE Hall of Famer signed with the company last month.
Ric Flair made his AEW debut on the October 25 episode of AEW Dynamite, when he was presented as Tony Khan’s ‘gift’ for Sting ahead of his upcoming retirement at AEW Revolution next year.
AEW since announced that they had signed the Nature Boy to a multi-year deal, which was met with a lot of backlash online from fans of the company.
Flair’s deal was in conjunction with a partnership with Flair’s Wooooo! Energy drink, which has been featured on the titantron for the shows, as well as the announce desk.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Tony Khan provided an update on Flair’s deal, noting that Flair and Wooooo Energy are paying for all of Flair’s appearances.
He said:
“We’re not paying Ric Flair; Ric Flair is essentially paying us. We’re getting paid by Wooooo Energy for all of his appearances, so we’re collecting revenue from them.”
Flair found himself in hot water in AEW last week, with him issuing a statement to Tony Khan, saying he was willing to walk away from AEW if he was embarrassing the company.
