There’s still a chance that Mercedes Mone could be heading to WWE, even if she does have interest from AEW.
It was recently reported that talks between Mone and WWE had come to a halt with both sides “no longer in active negotiations“.
More recently, it was reported that AEW insiders expect Mone to sign with the company.
Dave Meltzer provided an update in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing:
“The other rumor was that Mercedes Mone would be starting with AEW shortly.
“The only thing we heard is that she was in talks with WWE and they were far apart on money.
“Some in WWE speculated that this could be a Punk situation where everyone denies it to lead to a Rumble surprise.
“Mone was talked about by others in WWE as Khan’s counterpunch for losing Andrade.
“Khan did say he would be very active in the free agent market in 2024.”
Andrade is widely expected to be heading back to WWE after recently confirming his departure from AEW.
Punk hasn’t been the only surprise signing of late, with Will Ospreay signing with AEW in time for Full Gear despite interest from WWE.
