WWE star Cody Rhodes addressed the “we want Cody” movement after this week’s (February 5) edition of WWE Monday Night Raw went off the air.
The American Nightmare was in action in the show’s main event, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in a Bull Rope match.
Moments before the cameras stopped rolling, Drew McIntyre attacked Rhodes, laying him out with his Claymore kick.
Rhodes and McIntyre’s brawl continued after the live broadcast ended, with Sami Zayn eventually running down to help Rhodes fight off McIntyre and Nakamura.
Sami Zayn then took to the mic to acknowledge the fans’ “we want Cody” chants, which led to Cody Rhodes himself saying:
“Those three words… well, all I can say is this. Since I was a little boy who grew up loving everything, for you to want me is special because I have always wanted you.
“I love you guys so much. I’m sorry I’m an emotional mess.”
You can watch videos of these moments below.
Fans got #WeWantCody to trend on social media following Friday’s (February 2) edition of SmackDown.
It was on this show that Cody Rhodes announced that he won’t be challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Title at WrestleMania 40, moments before The Rock made his entrance to confront Roman Reigns.
Fans have voiced their outrage online, arguing that Rhodes deserves to finish his story in the main event of WrestleMania.
Triple H has now reacted to a pitch for Cody Rhodes, The Rock and Roman Reigns, which you can read more about right here.
