10. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels – Raw (April 27, 2007)
John Cena was not well-liked by the hardcore WWE audience in 2007. He was popular with children but his work was well below the level you would expect from the face of the company. His feud with Shawn Michaels was a large portion of what gave his run as WWE Champion credibility.
Their match at WrestleMania 23 was a hell of a main event match but their near hour-long match on Raw was even better. On April 27, 2007, Cena and Michaels wrestled for 55 minutes and put on a clinic. WWE matches just don’t last this long unless its an Iron Man match and these two carried the match perfectly. It also resulted in Michaels getting a non-title win over Cena. A must-watch for any who missed it.
9. John Cena vs. Cesaro – Raw (July 6, 2015)
John Cena introduced the world to the United States Championship Open Challenge in 2015. After beating Rusev at WrestleMania 31, Cena put the title on the line every week on Raw. From a consistency standpoint, this was maybe Cena’s best run of his career.
As far as his Raw matches go, this was the best one. Cesaro is maybe the most underused star on the main roster and he proves it whenever he is put in a position to perform. His match with Cena was the main event of Raw and together they proved they could have a main event program anytime any place.
8. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens – Elimination Chamber 2015
During the same time as the Cesaro match, John Cena took on Kevin Owens in Owens’ main roster debut. WWE has a very distinct main event style. It is a style that has produced many great matches but every once in awhile it is nice to see something different.
This match was something different. Cena and Owens didn’t simply exchange finishers for 20 minutes but they wrestled. They competed like two men unfamiliar with the other and the fans ate it up. Owens got the clean win, which is a rare occurrence when an up-and-coming heel faces Cena, and it capped off this classic match.
