8. Chad Gable
WWE announced the first ever ‘International Superstar Shake-Up’ on the 15th and 16th of April. This led to WWE fans speculating that perhaps Raw and Smackdown Live wouldn’t be the only brands trading superstars during the two nights.
These rumours were fuelled when four of the best NXT has to offer: Johnny Gargano, Ricochet, Aleister Black and the NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa were called up to the main roster. This would leave NXT’s roster thin, and many thought that the ‘developmental’ brand might be receiving some talent from Raw and Smackdown after WrestleMania.
If this were to be the case, one such superstar should be Chad Gable. Gable is a severely under-utilised and under-appreciated wrestler. He is agile, athletic and powerful, and is currently stagnating on the main roster. Gable’s run in NXT featured a reign with the NXT Tag Team Championships with his former tag team partner Jason Jordan. Gable could return to NXT and go one better the second time around and become NXT Champion.
Similarly to the proposed idea with KUSHIDA, the opportunity for a Gable vs. Gargano match at NXT Takeover: New York is mouth-watering. The two would have a sensational bout. Gargano could put Gable over to solidify him as not only a great tag team wrestler, but also a more than capeable singles star who has immense potential. If WWE and NXT don’t see the potential in Gable and do something about it soon, I’m sure a certain Cody will be waiting in the wings. A run back down in NXT as NXT Champion would be a great way to start that.
