8. Have Meaningful Feuds
As previously mentioned, the United States Championship has not been defended since August on the main card of a WWE Pay-Per-View. This could almost be excused if WWE were showcasing the title heavily on Smackdown, with in-depth storylines and interesting feuds. However, this is not the case
Shinsuke Nakamura spent the first four months of his title reign without a feud for the title, placed in throw-away matches for the championship with the likes of R-Truth. In the go home show to the Royal Rumble, Shinsuke Nakamura, nor his challenger Rusev, were even seen on Smackdown, completely devaluing the title and causing fans to care very little about the match, which on paper, could have been great.
The Intercontinental Championship has been defended on Raw in the main event slot frequently in recent times. For example, Dean Ambrose defeated Seth Rollins in a Falls Count Anywhere match in the main event of Raw on January 7th. This elevated the prestige of the Intercontinental Champion, and the fact it was given the main event slot on WWE’s flagship show made it feel like a big deal.
What would have been the harm in giving Shinsuke Nakamura a meaningful feud and allowing him and the challenger to main event Smackdown? The main event slot would not only allow the title to feel more prestigious but also allow the feud to feel more personal and meaningful, ensuring both superstars would be more over at its culmination, and that’s the end goal, right?
