10 Ways To Save The WWE United States Championship

9. Showcase The Title On Pay-Per-Views

Looking at the Royal Rumble card from just last week, it is clear how the WWE feel about the United States Championship. The title match was on the kickoff show, alongside a match for the Cruiserweight Championship. WWE clearly sees the Cruiserweights as a separate entity and not on the same level of the main roster talent. They are treated as more of a developmental brand being showcased in the World’s Collide Tournament alongside NXT and NXT UK.

WWE, if it is not careful, has a real danger of making the United States Championship feel like a lesser entity, on the same level as the Cruiserweight Championship for example.

Raw’s midcard championship (the IC title) was on pay-per-view last at TLC in December and was the final men’s match on the card that night. By comparison, the United States Championship has not been defended on the main show of a pay-per-view since SummerSlam where Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Jeff Hardy. That means since his title win at the pay-per-view previous, Shinsuke Nakamura only defended his championship ONCE on the main show of a Pay-Per-View, and he had been champion for over FIVE months.

WWE needs to make the title feel like a big attraction by having it defended on Pay-Per-View main cards, otherwise, the value of the title risks being degraded more than it already is, perhaps even beyond repair.
