12. NXT Women’s Championship (2014)
There have been two tournaments to crown new NXT Women’s Champions.
The first was held in 2013, headlined by Paige defeating Emma to become the brand’s first Women’s champ. Although undoubtedly a significant moment, the wrestling throughout was only so-so, final bout aside.
The 2014 tournament took place when Paige vacated the strap after joining the main roster and for the most part featured much stronger action.
In hindsight the early rounds offer a fascinating glimpse at how strong the women’s division would become. Sasha Banks and Bayley had a good match, rookie Alexa Bliss handled herself well and Charlotte looked like a future superstar.
The final was the best of the bunch, a 17-minute scorcher between Natalya from the main roster and the future Queen of WWE. Charlotte scored the win, capturing her first gold in the promotion in the match of the night.
