5 biggest Hell in a Cell disappointments in WWE history

1. D-Generation X vs. The Legacy – WWE Hell in a Cell 2009

Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has buried more high caliber talent than any superstar in recent memory. This match is a shining example. D-Generation X was two-fifths of what it once was, while Rhodes and DiBiase, as part of the Legacy, were up-and-coming stars in the company, demonstrating charisma and in-ring ability on a consistent basis.

DiBiase knew the intricacies of the business and was at least an average performer, and Cody Rhodes is arguably the hottest wrestler in the world today with ironically, a pedigree, that speaks for itself. What WWE should have done was book the Legacy to go over on a watered-down version of a once-great stable. Instead, they opted to go a confusing route.

Triple H locked DiBiase outside the cell, only to use a sledgehammer on Rhodes in the ring moments later. Rhodes was then treated to a Shawn Michaels facial orchestra, and that was that.

The crowd cheered for the babyface duo at the time, but the product suffered as a result over the course of the next few months.

DX buried Rhodes & DiBiase in October 2009, only to break up before the Royal Rumble in January 2010. The disappointment in the closing match at 2009’s Hell in A Cell grows with each passing year.

Thankfully, Triple H and Shawn Michaels somehow endured.
