WWE Matches Of The Week #17 – SummerSlam Special

WWE SummerSlam
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins

Rollins vs. Ziggler seems to be a never-ending saga of good to great matches. SummerSlam was no different, of course, as the two, along with their resident lunatics Dean Ambrose and Drew McIntyre, opening the show in spectacular fashion.

The match was surrounded in potential heel turns and tag team break-ups but none came. This didn’t hinder it, however, as even though the start was nothing great, some choice variation spots later on really turned it up a notch. With the side action of Dean vs. Drew, the finale really got the crowd going and a Rollins win saw the night open in a big way.

The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The New Day

The Bludgeon Brothers’ tag title reign on SmackDown Live hasn’t been the best in recent times. The “big man” team of Harper and Rowan are a quality unit (especially Harper) but simply booking them as monster heels isn’t enough anymore, especially when we are so accustomed to the incredible bouts put on by the likes of the New Day and the Usos.

That said, they managed to put on a fantastic bout here with the former that led to an intriguing finish and kept you wanting more. Which we received, but more on that later.

Big E, in particular, stood out in this one, hitting belly-to-belly suplexes on both champions, proving his incredible strength once again… like he needed to. The New Day managed to actually push Harper and Rowan to the limit, a feat not done by anyone since the former Wyatt Family returned repackaged.
