WWE stars to reform tag team: Three reunions that could boost the division

With Raw’s World Tag Team Titles going almost three months without a defense and the SmackDown tag team scene feeling just about as lifeless, it’s evident that WWE needs to invest a lot more energy in the division.

The work required goes beyond just adding new teams, but some fresh blood certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Thankfully for WWE, they have several teams already signed to the company, so they wouldn’t even need to open their check book to make positive changes.

Here are three former tag teams to potentially reform in WWE:

Ricky Saints & Big Cass

We start the list with pairing that came together in All Elite Wrestling rather than WWE: Ricky Saints & Big Cass.

The former Ricky Starks and Big Bill captured the AEW World Tag Team Titles in October 2023 and held them until February the following year.

Much like Cass’ time with Enzo Amore, he and Saints complimented each other, with Cass acting as perfect protector for the loud-mouthed New Orleans native.

With both Cass and Saints struggling a bit on their own in WWE, they would be wise to revisit this team as soon as possible

Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs

Josh Briggs and Brooks Jensen were a foundational part of NXT’s tag team division between 2021 and 2023, with the pair holding the NXT UK Tag Team Titles for just under three months in 2022 and putting up many challenges for the NXT Tag Titles in that time.

They never quite reached the top of the brand’s tag division, and as singles stars they have certainly struggled to find the same amount of success.

Briggs hasn’t been seen on NXT since April, but did recently make his in-ring return on WWE Main Event against Big Cass, so there’s perhaps some reason to be hopeful for a return. Jensen hasn’t had a lay off like Briggs – instead competing across Evolve, Main Event and NXT live events – but he hasn’t been featured regularly on TV for quite some time.

Bringing the pair back together would be mutually beneficial, whether back in NXT or on the main roster. If it’s the latter then WWE would have to invest some time in their characters; perhaps even giving them a full repackaging. Either way though, they are two very talented in-ring performers and should be utilized somewhere in the company.

Ethan Page & Rusev

After a first year back in WWE where he failed to really find his feet, Rusev saw his fortunes turn around when he began teaming with “All Ego” Ethan Page.

The pair of former AEW stars made for an entertaining odd couple, and their union allowed the Bulgarian to show more of his personality that we all know is there from his first WWE run.

Unfortunately this run was derailed when Rusev suffered an injury in late July, but he has recently been cleared to return according to his wife CJ Perry.

Page is currently hunting Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Championship and has a big match with Rey Fenix set for next week’s Raw (October 5). Rusev returning in this match and helping Page win would be an excellent way to reintroduce him to TV and get his allegiance with Page back underway.
