WWE Tag Team Splitting Up

With WWE letting tag teams like the Motor City Machine Guns and Wyatt Sicks go in 2026, there is certainly more investment needed from creative to bolster their ranks on Raw, SmackDown and NXT.

Despite this, we are seeing evidence that some of WWE’s remaining teams may be set to split up in the near future across the men’s and women’s divisions.

Here are three WWE tag teams who could potentially be set to split up soon.

Damian Priest & R-Truth

Former WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest and R-Truth are seemingly set for their last hurrah as a tag team this coming Friday on SmackDown in Mexico City (September 11), as they challenge The War Raiders for their AAA World Tag Team Titles.

With Erik and Ivar already issuing an open challenge for their gold at TripleMania 34 – which takes place after SmackDown – it seems pretty clear that the gold will be staying where it is.

So what does that mean for Priest and Truth? Will they amicably split and go their separate ways? Or will this union end in heartbreak?

With Priest showing more and more frustration towards Truth in recent weeks, it’s seeming like WWE may be building towards a heel turn for the former World Heavyweight Champion. Considering how beloved Truth is, Priest doing anything to harm the veteran would be the perfect launching pad for his heel singles push.

Tiffany Stratton & Chelsea Green

Switching over to the women’s division now, and there appears to be another split brewing between Tiffany Stratton and WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green.

With Green’s broken orbital bone injury keeping her from getting physical throughout August, it was her tag partner Stratton who bore the brunt of the punishment in her place, with the Minnesota native even dropping her Women’s United States Title to Jacy Jayne in her attempt to protect Green.

Stratton’s misfortune continued on this past Friday’s SmackDown (September 4), as she was hit with an Annihilator and pinned by Nia Jax.

Whether it’s during Green’s WWE Title match with Jax in Mexico City, or at some point afterwards, it feels inevitable that Stratton gets some payback for all the damage done to her.

Sami Zayn & Johnny Gargano

While not officially a tag team, Sami Zayn and Johnny Gargano have been allies on WWE TV in recent months; although it admittedly has been a rather one-sided relationship.

Amid all the injustices against him on WWE SmackDown, Zayn has confided in ‘Johnny Wrestling’ whilst he’s been laid out immobile backstage.

With Gargano only now back on his feet and wrestling for the first time in months, it’s unclear how much he actually is behind Zayn, or whether he’ll go his own path.

He was willing to capitalize on Zayn’s interference during his Undisputed WWE Title match with CM Punk on SmackDown, however, based on his latest social media message it feels like Gargano will be returning to a babyface role on TV going forward rather than continuing an allegiance with Sami.
