With Sami Zayn successfully retaining the Undisputed WWE Championship on SmackDown against Kevin Owens, he has officially surpassed the number of days of his first title reign.

While his first spin with the title lasted only 9 days, it definitely isn’t the shortest in WWE history with some of the most brief reigns possibly being forgotten about by fans entirely.

Here are four WWE World title reigns that fans have completely forgotten about.

Batista – 1 Day in 2009

Batista is remembered as a six-time world champion, but one of those reigns was so short it was possible that some fans forgot about it entirely.

Winning his first WWE Championship at Extreme Rules 2009 after defeating Randy Orton in a Steel Cage match — his first reign would prove his shortest at only being officially recognized for 1 day.

Despite having been away from WWE with an injury and returning to resume his feud with Orton, the next night on Raw would see The Legacy faction tear apart Batista.

After a legitimate bicep injury was set to take Batista out of action again, he still defeated Orton at the event only to have the group claim responsibility for the injury via the beatdown, leading Batista to vacate the title.

Randy Orton would go on to win it back in a Fatal-Four Way against Triple H, John Cena and the Big Show on an episode of WWE Raw.

Mr. McMahon – 4 Days in 1999

Certainly one of the most fascinating moves of the Attitude Era, there was in fact four days in 1999 that saw Mr. McMahon officially hold the WWE Championship.

In a wild turn of events on one of the first several episodes of SmackDown, Mr. McMahon would take on Triple H in a WWE Championship match after the DX star continued to mock Linda McMahon.

The bout would also see Shane McMahon as the special guest referee but one of the most unlikely allies imaginable would be the one to hand the victory to Vince.

With longtime rival Stone Cold Steve Austin delivering a stunner to Triple H before dragging McMahon’s lifeless body on top of him, Shane would count the pinfall and the rest is history.

Of course, fans of a certain vintage will recall that McMahon didn’t have a long title reign, vacating it on the following Monday’s edition of WWE Raw making way for a Six-Pack Challenge at Unforgiven featuring Triple H ultimately reclaiming the title after defeating The Rock, British Bulldog, Big Show, Mankind and Kane.

Randy Orton & Triple H – less than one day in 2007

A fascinating piece of WWE history was the events of No Mercy 2007 which saw the WWE Championship flip more than once.

After John Cena suffered a torn pectoral muscle and was forced to vacate the championship due to injury, Mr. McMahon would award the title to Randy Orton.

However, the same night he would be challenged by Triple H and The Game would emerge victorious in the effort.

But the shenanigans did not stop there as later in the same night, Orton would go on to face Triple H again and regain the title leading to both of the landmark stars picking up a title reign lasting less than one day.

With the two men effectively trading the title twice during the span of one very chaotic pay-per-view, the duo still sit at tied for the third most World titles reigns with 14 each.
