It’s being reported that Adam Cole will be backstage at tonight’s WWE SmackDown to have a “high-level” meeting with Vince McMahon.
Fightful Select, which reported this news, explicitly states it has not been told that Cole will be appearing on the show.
The situation with Adam Cole, in case you weren’t already aware, is that his WWE contract expired this past July, much to the surprise of management, who thought he was signed until the end of the year.
He agreed to extend his deal with the company until after SummerSlam weekend so he can at least finish his program with Kyle O’Reilly, but the ordeal did appear to lead to the release of then-Senior Director of Talent Development, Canyon Ceman.
Fightful Select also notes that AEW and Cole have not yet had “a formal conversation”, despite Dave Meltzer’s report that AEW had made him an offer. Tony Khan said earlier today that the latter was false.
No details were provided on what the meeting will be about, but since it’s with McMahon, perhaps it’ll involve a potential main roster call-up as part of a new deal with WWE if he is to sign one.
