The AEW Dynamite Daddy Ass Birthday Bash for Billy Gunn in November 2022 was supposed to have a special guest.
Whilst the celebration would see scissoring, a trophy and the adoption of The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster), some things just weren’t meant to be.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Anthony Bowens spoke of his involvement, saying:
“The Daddy Ass Birthday Bash celebration, I thought it would be a fun idea, and I did put it together.
“What you saw, people enjoyed, but it was maybe 30 or 40 percent of what I had originally planned.”
He would then reveal that Chuck Palumbo was on the list of things that were originally planned and unused, saying:
“He was going to be my birthday gift to Billy.
“I thought the irony of me reuniting Billy & Chuck would be perfect for this birthday bash, but he wasn’t available last minute.”
Bowens would speak proudly of the things that did fall into place despite obstacles to success, concluding:
“Everything that we had really thought about that would have been cool, ended up not being available, so we just had to pivot.
“Here’s this trophy, adopt us, so we are Billy Gunn’s adopted children now.
“Just know, that segment was going to be absolutely insane if it had been the way we had planned it.”
Billy & Chuck was a WWE tag team from November 2001 to September 2002.
The pair would be increasingly affectionate towards each other, wearing matching ring gear and sporting bleached hair.
They would eventually take part in a commitment ceremony before revealing that it was just a publicity stunt that had gone too far.
Chuck Palumbo was released from WWE in November 2008.
He would perform on the independent scene before retiring from professional wrestling in 2012
