**The following article contains spoilers for the NJPW STRONG The New Beginning USA tapings held last night (January 15), turn away if you do not wish to be spoiled**
Ahead of the taping, Jay White had called out talent from ‘any promotion‘ for his US of Jay open challenge. In the main event of the show, AEW’s Jay Lethal answered White’s call. White ultimately defeated Lethal via pinfall, after hitting the Bladerunner.
Lethal wrestled a number of matches for NJPW between 2016-2017, notably defending the ROH World Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 10.
Prior to this taping, White’s most recent match was against AEW Head of Talent Relations Christopher Daniels, during the December 9, 2021 NJPW STRONG Nemesis taping. AEW President Tony Khan previously noted that he plans to maintain AEW’s relationships with international promotions, including NJPW.
Also at the taping, former NXT name Taylor Rust (fka Tyler Rust) challenged for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship. These matches will air on upcoming episodes of NJPW STRONG.
