In 2014, Matt Riddle decided to step away from the world of MMA. He very shortly after began training to become a professional wrestler.
During an interview with WrestlingInc, an AEW star has opened up about being involved in training the former NXT Tag Team Champion and new SmackDown star.
AEW star QT Marshall recently opened up about what it was like to train Matt Riddle, describing him as a “good kid”:
“He was a prodigy because he was a giant fan of pro wrestling which helps. He also wasn’t getting smashed in the face like he was in UFC so he was really easy to coach. He was a little knuckleheadish with some of the stuff he did back then but he’s a good kid.”
It was also noted that less than six months into his training, Riddle had a near 20-minute match with QT, which proved that he was a natural.
During the interview, Marshall also praised Riddle for not being a “yes man”, applauding the “Original Bro’s” confidence:
“He’s not just a ‘yes man’ and if you’re a ‘yes man’ all the time, it’s great but you’re not happy. Then it will end up coming out in the end and you can’t have that happen,”
Just last week on SmackDown, Riddle wrestled for the first time for the blue brand, defeating former WWE Champion and wrestling legend AJ Styles.
