John Cena is an interesting character. Many people will tell you he is the most giving and thoughtful person in wrestling, but if you ask Tyler Reks, Alex Riley and Ken Anderson you will get a much less positive answer. Now, you can apparently add AEW star Jake Hager to that list.
During his appearance on Talk is Jericho, Hager (known in WWE as Jack Swagger) revealed that Cena refused to lose the WWE Championship to him. Here is the quote, courtesy of Fightful:
“I had a little inclination, but I had no idea what was going to happen. The night before, I teased it on Raw. I hit Cena with the briefcase, I snuck up on him when he had one of his brilliant promo segments. Later, come to find out, he refused to do the job for me for the [WWE] Championship. We won’t talk about that. Ugh. ‘The most unselfish top man in the business.'”
Hager had won the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania XXVI and attempted to cash-in on Cena the next night. When that plan did not work he turned his attention to Chris Jericho on SmackDown. That was more successful as he captured the World Heavyweight Championship.
