Top AEW star Swerve Strickland has reflected on his time working with former WWE and AEW World Champion CM Punk.
At AEW All In London, CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe to retain the “Real” World Title. However, many fans will not remember the event for Punk’s battle with Joe.
Prior to coming out for his bout, Punk got into a backstage physical altercation with Jack Perry that led to The Second City Saint’s firing from All Elite Wrestling.
Despite not having too many on-screen interactions on AEW TV, Punk and Swerve were both part of a multi man All-Star tag team match ahead of All In London.
Speaking to Bootleg Kev in a new interview, Swerve Strickland discussed working with CM Punk in AEW. He said:
“I was his last TV match. The All-Star tag match on Collision. I had great experiences with him. Didn’t interact with him a lot, but I always had positive interactions.”
“My first day there, I was taking my photos and renders, and he jumped in and photobombed it.”
“I never even spoke to him or had an introduction, but that was his first interaction to me. I was like, ‘This is cool, that’s dope.’”
“When I went out and did my contract signing, he was like, ‘How did it go?’ ‘It went excellent, thank you.’ He’s always been a positive influence with me.”
CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. However, he suffered a torn triceps injury in his return match at WWE Royal Rumble 2024.
