Scrapped Pitch For Sting’s AEW Retirement Match Revealed

Scrapped Pitch For Sting’s AEW Retirement Match Revealed AEW

Ric Flair tried to change one major aspect of Sting’s retirement story that culminated at AEW Revolution on March 3, 2024.

At the recent PPV, Sting teamed with Darby Allin, defeating the Young Bucks to retire as AEW World Tag Team Champion with an undefeated record.

Speaking on What Happened When?, Conrad Thompson revealed that Flair wanted to be more involved in the match.

While Flair acted as “moral support” for Sting, it transpires that The Nature Boy wanted to deliver one more heel turn, with Thompson explaining:

“He desperately wanted to turn on Sting. ‘Conrad will you go talk to Tony? You’re friends with him, just go talk to him’ and I’m like ‘what are you talking about? ‘Just go and talk to him, try to convince him, me turning on Sting is best for business.’

“I go ‘Ric you work here, you’re in the storyline, I think maybe you should tell him.'”

It would turn out that Flair had apparently pitched the idea to Khan but thought it might have more weight coming from Thompson than from the WWE Hall of Famer.

Thompson also revealed that he was told to tell Khan that ‘it only worked ten other times’ by Flair.

After Sting’s final match, The Icon addressed the AEW fans in a segment that was cut short when the show was aired live.

AEW have since released the footage in its entirety on YouTube and it can be seen below this news story.
