Austin Theory Fires Back At Claim He ‘Stole’ Tyler Breeze’s Gimmick WWE

While Austin Theory’s incessant selfie taking may have failed to impress Mr. McMahon on WWE Raw, it has gotten over with fans.

Thanks in no small part to his sharing plenty of screen time with Mr. McMahon, Austin Theory has featured consistently in storylines on Monday Night Raw however some critics have pondered whether or not his gimmick is a little too reminiscent of a former WWE star, Tyler Breeze.

Speaking out on the issue to Sportskeeda, Theory said:

“You see stuff online where people are like, ‘It’s ripping this off, it’s ripping that off.’ To me, it’s a different way of doing it and I’m going about it a different way. Anything that people might have seen before or think they might have seen before, they don’t want to get along with it because they’re like, ‘Well, it’s already happened.’ But I think what I do is totally different.”

Referencing Tyler Breeze’s 2013 NXT gimmick of a” narcissistic pretty boy” character, he would take copious selfies on his way to the ring and even during the match with an iPhone.

Theory notes that while he believes there is a definite difference in the two characters, people are free to have their opinions, saying:

“If anybody has a different opinion to that, that’s theirs, but I think it’s gonna be great. I think it’s gonna be so great when I take that selfie in Saudi Arabia with the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber. People can tweet all they want that they hate that. It doesn’t matter because that’s a selfie that’s gonna be in the history books forever.”

Austin Theory is scheduled to compete in this Saturday’s Elimination Chamber match where he will take on champion Bobby Lashley as well as Riddle, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, and Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.

This week’s opening segment of Raw saw Lesnar initially use Theory as a coat rack until Theory attempted to strike and was swiftly taken down by Lesnar as the other competitors in the match looked on.
