The NXT UK brand recently made its return to the WWE Network after a long hiatus. However, it is now being reported that a number of changes have been made backstage.
As reported by Inside The Ropes, one of the show’s producers would be leaving the company. That producer is Glen Joseph, the former co-owner of PROGRESS. It was also stated in the report that Jim Smallman has been promoted to the head writer of NXT UK. Smallman is also a former PROGRESS founder.
The report went on to reveal that the talent found out about the changes in a Zoom call on Thursday. Despite being in charge of the writing for the show, Smallman will still be answering to Shawn Michaels and Matt Bloom who are manning the ship remotely from America.
Since returning, it appears the direction for NXT UK will be for Ilja Dragunov to challenge WALTER for the United Kingdom Championship. Prior to the pandemic, the plan was for WALTER to face Finn Balor in a big match. Obviously, those plans were put on hold indefinitely as Balor has remained in the United States.
