In what should come as no surprise to those who have been keeping even half an eye on the Universal Championship picture, former champion Brock Lesnar was missing from last night’s episode of Raw.
What is strange about this though, is that Brock was supposed to be making an appearance at the Barclays Center on Monday. Last month, the Barclays Center Twitter account tweeted:
JUST ANNOUNCED: @WWE Universal Champion @BrockLesnar will appear LIVE in Brooklyn for Monday Night RAW on 8/20! pic.twitter.com/ySJN29RFan
— Barclays Center (@barclayscenter) July 16, 2018
It was previously reported that Lesnar had a meeting with those in charge of WWE at 4pm the day of SummerSlam to negotiate his contract. Speculation is rife that his loss to Roman on Sunday night may have been his last outing with the company.
It was confirmed that Brock re-signed with the company in April, 2018. Unfortunately, at the time no further details were forthcoming regarding the length. Many expected his title defense at SummerSlam to be his last match in WWE after he took to the octagon at UFC 226 to challenge Daniel Cormier.
No one seemed to have told Paul Heyman however. During the Raw after SummerSlam, Heyman informed Kurt Angle that the ‘Beast’ would like to invoke his rematch clause at September’s Hell in a Cell.
Kurt seemed much less keen, responding:
“It will be a long, long, long ,long , long time before Brock Lesnar ever gets his rematch.”
Brock is not currently advertised for any WWE shows at present, and he has also re-entered the USADA testing pool, fueling speculation that he will challenge current UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier in early January.
After Brock suffered the loss to Roman Reigns on Sunday, the UFC two-weight champion posted the following to his Twitter:
Old Brock is looking smaller thru the middle. He getting ready to really come and get that ass whipped!!!! Have fun in this @Wwe title match because when we clash I’m in that ass!!!!
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) August 20, 2018
And quickly followed that up with:
No more title now he can come and chase mine!!!! Sorry @BrockLesnar result will be the same!!!!
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) August 20, 2018
It’s obvious what Daniel wants, however, what Brock will do is more of a mystery.
