Carmelo Hayes was crowned the winner of the 2021 NXT Breakout Tournament during last night’s episode of the show on USA Network.
Hayes picked up the win over Odyssey Jones in the final. Jones has been working main roster dark matches recently so it seems he’s at least on the radar to possibly be called up to the main roster.
Hayes had beaten Josh Briggs and then Duke Hudson on his road to the final, while Jones had beaten Andre Chase and Trey Baxter.
As the winner, Hayes can now challenge for any NXT title of his choosing, but he didn’t reveal his decision on last night’s show.
He debuted on NXT TV in June in impressive showings against Kushida and Adam Cole, and had people talking with his John Cena-esque “ruthless aggression” promo which signified he was in for a big push.
