Chris Jericho Reveals How He Found Out He Was Winning The Undisputed Championship

Chris Jericho is the first Undisputed Champion in WWE history. It is a little known fact after all. He doesn’t really like talking about it. However, he has now revealed how he learned he was going to become Undisputed Champion.

It may not shock you to learn that he found out on the day of the show at Vengeance 2001. During his appearance for Inside The Ropes, Jericho told this story and many others. Here is the quote:

“You know how I found out I was going to become the first ever Undisputed Champion? You know how? Hmm? I was in catering and I was sitting there, minding my own beeswax, eating my food and right over here was Vince McMahon and The Undertaker. And Vince starting talking loudly where he knew I could hear him but he wasn’t talking to me and he said ‘hey Taker! You know how you know the business is going down the toilet?’ ‘How Vince?’ ‘Well we’re putting the belt on Jericho! PWAH!’ Is there another Jericho? And that’s how I found out. Literally hours before the show with a thinly veiled insult.”

For those unaware of the circumstances, Jericho had to win two matches that night to become the champion. First, he defeated The Rock to win the WCW Championship, and then he defeated Steve Austin to become WWF Champion, unifying both belts.
