AEW and Tony Khan announced last Saturday (September 2) that CM Punk’s contracts with the company had been ‘terminated with cause’.
Punk’s termination came following the investigation into the backstage incident AEW All In at Wembley Stadium on August 27.
Following Punk’s termination, fans have speculated about whether or not Punk would return to WWE.
At today’s WWE Superstar Spectacle event in India, the crowd clearly had their say on the speculation, breaking out into chants of his name during a match between Natalya and Zoey Stark.
The original planned match between Zoey Stark and Becky Lynch was pulled from the show, as Becky was unable to travel to India due to issues with her passport, which resulted in Natalya filling in for her.
Natalya pulled double duty on the show, as she also faced off with Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley for the title later in the night.
WWE star Zelina Vega has publicly spoken about her desire to see Punk return to WWE.
As it stands, it’s unknown whether Punk has a non-compete clause to adhere to before he can join WWE, but we’ll keep you posted with any updates.
