People have been talking about CM Punk returning to wrestling since the moment he left WWE in 2014. Despite resurfacing on WWE Backstage last year, Punk has not appeared on an actual wrestling show in almost seven years.
One of the things people bring up now is AEW. Is CM Punk going to AEW? Well we won’t ever know until it happens but now Punk has broached a very interesting topic, would he have gone to AEW if it existed in 2014?
During his appearance on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast, Punk astutely commented that everything would have been different if AEW existed. Here is the quote, courtesy of Wrestling Inc.:
“Well, I think the landscape is currently much different than when I left. You could play the game where you’re like, ‘oh, if AEW was an option, would you have gone right after you left WWE?’ If you’re going to play that game, there’s no way they would have handled it the way they handled it with suspending me for two months, and then nobody contacting me and then the next thing I know, I get release papers on my wedding day.
That wouldn’t have happened if there was an AEW because then they probably would have approached me and been like, ‘hey, your suspension’s up. Ready to come back to work? Let’s work this out.'”
CM Punk left WWE in 2014 after growing frustrated with how he was treated by management and doctors.
