The New Day made history when they captured the NXT Tag Team Championship for the first time against Pretty Deadly back at NXT Deadl1ne.
The victory means that they have now held the Raw, SmackDown and NXT Tag Team Championships, with Kofi Kingston capturing the most tag team titles out of every wrestler in WWE history.
The New Day and Pretty Deadly have continued their rivalry since then, with Pretty Deadly even making their main roster debut at last weekend’s WWE live events.
However, at the live events, Kofi Kingston went one on one with Kit Wilson, rather than working tag team matches with Xavier Woods against both members of Pretty Deadly.
Per PWInsider, this is due to Woods currently being ‘banged up’ and ‘not yet 100% cleared’ to wrestle, which is the reason the pair haven’t been in the ring much recently.
The company believes that Woods should be cleared by the Royal Rumble, if not sooner than then.
Woods was in Kingston’s corner for his match with Wilson at last night’s WWE Live Event, as well as during his match with Santos Escobar on last week’s SmackDown.
Pretty Deadly are set to attempt to run the gauntlet against three other tag teams to earn a shot at New Day’s NXT Tag Team Championship on tomorrow night’s (January 10) New Year’s Evil show.
