Of all the things that happened during Sunday’s Royal Rumble, Nia Jax coming out at number 30 for the men’s match was arguably the most surprising. The fact that she was then beaten up by a bunch of male wrestlers was less surprising.
Dave Meltzer reported after Nia’s Rumble appearance that WWE are keen on slowly introducing inter-gender wrestling onto the main roster, and that this was sewing seeds for that.
On last night’s Raw, Dean Ambrose was confronted by Nia Jax, who proceeded to hit Ambrose, who needed to be restrained by referees so that he wouldn’t retaliate. This has led to speculation that Dean could actually be setting up a feud with Nia, but in a backstage interview following the match, Dean seemed to suggest it was all water under the bridge.
If it does turn into a feud, could it be the last Dean Ambrose has in WWE? We reported earlier that Dean has handed in his notice to WWE and will not be re-signing his contract when it expires in April after WrestleMania.
He is said to be bored of always having “hokey” storylines or gimmicks, and that it’s left him frustrated in his role. It is not clear whether his wife, Raw commentator Renee Young, will also leave alongside her husband.
