Did CM Punk Appearing On WWE Backstage Devalue His In-Ring Return?

Did CM Punk Appearing On WWE Backstage Devalue His In-Ring Return?

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE, aka Vince McMahon, has no interest in bringing back CM Punk for WrestleMania or any other event.

Vince McMahon has labeled Punk as the one man he can’t do business with. While some in WWE thought it would be a good idea to have him back, it’s being reported none of the upper management in WWE thought it would be worth it.

This upper management includes Paul Heyman. According to the report, Heyman has not lobbied for Punk to appear in any capacity.

Given WWE’s reputation to do anything for a big draw, why wouldn’t they be interested in Punk? Well, the feeling is that by appearing on WWE Backstage on Fox Punk has devalued his return.

Basically, they feel he wasted his chance. WWE agreed to allow Punk on Fox as to not rock the boat with Fox in a new relationship.

However, the feeling is there is little to be gained from having him wrestle. Would it really shift buy-rate or ratings?

Based on the fact that the ratings didn’t stay higher for his 2nd and subsequent appearances, WWE doesn’t feel it would shift PPV buys.  Of course, it could be that Backstage just sucks as a show and there’s nothing even CM Punk can do to make people watch it.

Whatever the case, WWE has no interest in CM Punk at this time for anything. CM Punk not-returning confirmed. Insert sad emoji here!
