If you watched SummerSlam earlier this year, you will know that former WWE star Edge made a return, and hit his first spear in over 8 years on Elias.
Edge was forced to retire in 2011 due to injury, so the fact that he was cleared to hit a move got everyone speculating that he was on the comeback trail.
The speculation was further fuelled this past week when the Rated-R Superstar announced that he was leaving the E&C Podcast he hosts alongside Christian to focus on his family.
With the WWE Saudi Arabia show on the horizon, and Edge hitting his first spear in 8 years, a lot of fans are of the opinion that he is returning for a final match…or several.
It was noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Edge has negotiated a significant new deal with WWE, and that there had definitely been talk of trying to get him back in for a match.
Edge got a new deal by negotiating with both sides, and thus ended up with a significant WWE offer to stay. He did a spear recently, cleared for that after years of not being cleared to do anything. While it is not confirmed that he will wrestle again, the idea of him wrestling again has definitely been talked about very privately, although we’re not sure if he can get clearance.
Earlier this year, Edge spoke on the E&C Podcast about a potential return, and admitted that he didn’t think he could get clearance from WWE’s medical team.
“To be perfectly honest, I think I could do a match tomorrow. And I might be blown up, but I’d be okay. It’s just from what I know with the WWE medical staff, they won’t allow it.”
We will keep you updated with any more news regarding Edge and a possible return.
