Former WWE star and current NJPW World TV Champion Matt Riddle is set to defend his title for the first time.
At NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo Day 1, Matt Riddle defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the NJPW World Television Championship.
The match marked Riddle’s debut for the promotion and his win made the former WWE star only the third champion in the title’s short history.
Now, it looks like Riddle will make his first defense of the title in a whole different wrestling company later this week.
On February 25, MLW announced that Matt Riddle will defend the NJPW World TV Championship against TMDK’s Bad Dude Tito on February 29 at MLW Intimidation Games in New York City. Sharing the graphic for the bout, Riddle took to social media to comment on his first defense. He wrote:
My first NJPW World Television Title match since winning the title in Japan and I’m going to bring the smoke to Big Bad Tito bro #njpw #mlw #bro #njpwtvtitle #stallion #rudedude #combat1 #kingofbros @MLW
Matt Riddle won’t be the only NJPW representation on the MLW Intimidation Games card as Minoru Suzuki will challenge Satoshi Kojima for the MLW Heavyweight Championship on the event.
