EC3 has claimed that the American Psycho book and film helped inspire his recent character seen in Impact and Ring of Honor.
Speaking on the Chris Van Vliet Show, EC3 explained how observing Patrick Bateman’s personality traits inspired him to create his complex in-ring persona.
Here is how EC3 described his inspiration, courtesy of WrestleZone:
“That always has been, just the book and the character have always fascinated me, especially the movie. Christian Bale’s a stud. I’ve noticed, not the serial killer parts of it, but like the personality traits, I’m like, ‘Oh god, I’m unfortunately like this person.’ But yeah it’s very heavily influenced a lot of the stuff I did. But what I really loved about that is the ambiguity. You don’t know what real and what’s made up. So that’s what we like to portray with The Narrative.”
There’s a long history of wrestlers paying homages to film characters. Bray Wyatt’s ‘The Fiend’ persona pays tribute to many horror icons, including Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th series.
After a disappointing run in WWE, it was interesting to find out how EC3 added a complex layer to his character, once he was given creative freedom.
On this podcast, EC3 confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19. Not only was he pulled from Ring of Honor’s Final Battle show, he also missed the last Impact tapings of 2020.
Despite a disappointing end of the year, EC3’s killer character could become the talk of the wrestling world in 2021.
