Roman Reigns is currently both the WWE Champion and the Universal Champion, which means that he now currently floats between Raw and SmackDown shows.
Reigns’ carrying both brands’ world titles has led to speculation that WWE could be looking to end the brand split, or at least unify the championships together.
However, that reportedly won’t be happening, per WWE’s plan. Furthermore, Dave Meltzer spoke on Wrestling Observer Live, saying FOX wants to have ‘exclusivity’ on the WWE talent on SmackDown.
He said:
“Both networks kind of want unique rosters. You can do some of that back and forth but really Fox, in particular, really wants kind of exclusivity on its guys.”
WWE appeared to be setting up a tag team championship unification match at WrestleMania Backlash, before it was changed to a six-man tag team match also featuring both Reigns and Drew McIntyre. It was apparently never WWE’s plan to unify the tag team championships, and was always to be a six-man tag team main event.
