G1 CLIMAX Participants RANKED

14. Evil (5-4-0)

Evil is another who had a very consistent tournament. His matches were solid and for a while he was pushed as a contender in the A Block. While he would not be in contention on the final day, he did play a big role in shaping the outcome of the A Block as he defeated Jay White on the final day to eliminate him from contention.

Evil was featured as a star in this year’s G1 Climax with great emphasis put on his defeat of Kazuchika Okada in last year’s tournament. The announcers would push the idea of Evil being a true contender until he was mathematically eliminated and there was good reason to believe that Evil could be a big player in the A Block.

While consistent, Evil was also unable to have a truly awe-inspiring match in this year’s tournament. If he had been able to put together a string of excellent matches he might find himself further up this list.

Best Match: vs. Kazuchika Okada (Night 15)

Worst Match: vs. Bad Luck Fale (Night 7)

13. Michael Elgin (3-6-0)

As we climb higher up this list the level of quality of the matches goes up as well. Michael Elgin had a great tournament in the ring while also never really posing a threat of making the final. Elgin managed to have many great matches with almost every member of the A Block, the only problem being that he lost most of them.

Elgin did have a strong start, defeating Evil and Hangman Page in his first two matches. However, afterwards he fell off a cliff, losing six of his last seven matches with his only win coming via disqualification against Bad Luck Fale.

Elgin may not have been pushed as a legitimate contender in this year’s G1 Climax but he continued to show why he has been so successful everywhere he has gone. Great wrestling matches may not earn you points in the G1 Climax, but they earn you points on this list.
