If you’ve been following along, Jeff Jarrett and Global Wrestling Entertainment vs. Anthem Sports Entertainment has seemed like it will never end. Today, it just got a bit longer.
PWInsider is reporting United States District Court Judge Waverly D. Crenshaw, Jr. officially declared a mistrial. Has there ever been a more perfect name for a judge hearing a wrestling case? It totally sounds like a name Vince would come up with.
Anthem filed for the mistrial. They claimed Jarrett’s attorney had prejudiced the jury by noting Anthem’s Ed Nordholm was not present on 7/20. Additionally, the lawyers claimed Jarrett’s team brought up numbers during the liabilities portion of the closing arguments after having been instructed not to do so.
Waverly set a conference for September 11 to begin the process of setting up a new trial. The judge did order GFW Amped! recordings be preserved.
From here, the two sides can try to settle out of court. This has been something they have not been able to do thus far.
The other option is to start a new trial in September. This would mean starting over with a new jury. This, of course, would mean additional expenses. It will be interesting to see if the two will continue to battle this out in court or find a way to compromise.
