An interesting match has been. discussed for John Cena’s WWE run ahead of his return on this week’s episode of SmackDown.

While Cena will return to WWE TV on Friday’s (September 1) show, the 16-time world champion is set to stick around for a while.

As previously announced by WWE, Cena is slated for every SmackDown taping from now through to the end of October, with the exception of the September 8 show, as Cena will instead be competing at WWE Superstar Spectacle that same day.

This has led to speculation about matches Cena could have during this mini-run with WWE.

WRKD Wrestling has now reported that there have been discussions about Cena potentially facing Cody Rhodes.

WRKD Wrestling shared the following on Twitter:

John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes has been discussed as a possibility during Cena’s return stint.

Rhodes’ has drawn comparisons to Cena during his current WWE run, with the American Nightmare presented as one of WWE’s top babyfaces.

While Cena’s announced appearances have all been for SmackDown tapings, Rhodes is notably a WWE Raw star.
